Let Us Not Forget

Today, being the 4th of July is a huge deal to me...

Let Us Not Forget the sacrifices made by our Founding Fathers. Let us not forget those that came from afar to escape prosecution and injustice, that came to start a new way of life that included being free from the tyranny of rulers.

Let us not forget that without the bravery, courage and sacrifices - leaving home and hearth to come to a foreign land, untamed, wild, with challenges never before encountered.

Let us not forget the men and women that then fought to keep that freedom untainted.

Let us not forget the brave troops that spent that winter at Valley Forge, the men and women who later fought against the forces of Napoleon here on our own soil.

Let us not forget the men and women who fought on European soil during the First World War, and later, the Second - keeping our shores safe, and helping others in need, to fight the darkness of evil.

Let us not forget those soldiers who fought in Korea, and later, in Viet Nam and Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan.

No matter our opinion of the reasons for a war, whether we think we should have fought or stayed home,

Let us not forget

Take some time today to remember the sacrificed lives, honor those who fought, and be thankful, as you sit around eating your meal, listening to celebrations, watching fireworks, baseball games, children running through sprinklers, eating watermelon - or whatever your family does to celebrate the birth of our United States - be grateful for those that came before and were willing to stand up and fight for their beliefs.

Happy Fourth of July!
