Oh the Weather Outside is Frightful

Ahhhh...you have to love this time of year...yesterday it was cloudy, gray skies, and kind of yucky all day long...in the air was the smell of something coming...snow, rain...either way, a storm was brewing.

The weather man kept saying "No snow until between midnight and 6am, but you can expect a couple inches when you wake up tomorrow morning".

The rain started at about 5:30 last night. Hard, pelting rain. It was cold. You could tell by the feel of the air in the house that the temperature was falling pretty rapidly. It was messy - lots of puddles, very wet from the rain. Sometime between 8:00 and 8:30 last night, the raindrops turned to snow. Giant, fluffy flakes like I've never seen before. We're talking bigger than the size of a quarter...it almost looked as though dozens of flakes were stuck together to make one Mega-Flake...it was sticking and we already had about half an inch. It was really pretty to watch.

Somewhere between bedtime around 9pm and 7am it stopped snowing, after leaving us with 4 inches of heavy, wet snow that was crusted with ice. Underneath it was a sheet of ice coating the sidewalks, roads, and driveways. We watched the news, hoping that it would have school closures for our district (not that it matters to us), so maybe BB wouldn't have to go into the office...but it was not to be.

So, off BB went, after shoveling twice (it started snowing again around 8am - those dry flakes, light, grainy - into the cold white winter world to which we awoke.

Personally, I think it is beautiful. I also have nowhere to go, no place to be, no groceries to purchase, only a bit of laundry to do, and my children to enjoy snuggling with as we watch movies.

It is a beautiful thing, isn't it.

Especially when you know we're sure to have sunshine again soon.

Stay warm!
