For instance - I am exhausted to the point that I have to try to remember what I was doing, but am full of energy today to get things done. I am ecstatic about this new baby, but am petrified at how it will change the dynamics of our family, emotionally and financially (how shallow is that?!). I am having these crazy cravings for food, but by the time it is in front of me to be eaten, I am totally at the point that the sight of it alone makes me want to violently empty my stomach of its contents...
SIGH...today, I dropped the kids off at Church for the moms' thing, and came right home. I had 2 1/2 hours to work, uninterrupted by cries of "I need more (insert beverage/item/show)" or "OUCH!" It was so nice! I was able to get my entire house clean from top to bottom, all things dusted (moved the nick-nacks, dusted them), all things swept, mopped, scrubbed, vacuumed, picked up, put away, thrown out, recycled, sheets changed, windows (insides only) washed. I made menus for the next 2 weeks based on what I have in my pantry and freezer only (trying to save some money in shopping less and only for necessities), I weeded my vegetable garden boxes, and brought in some monster zucchini that were hiding in the darkness of the jungle of plants that are out there, and was even able to refresh my polish on my toes!
My house is clean enough that when we came back, Happ.y Me.als in hand, the house didn't smell of laundry needing washed, or stale animals!! HOORAY!!!!!
Now, don't tell my husband that I cleaned out the litterboxes today...I wore a mask and gloves and took a shower after I was done...which leads me to ask...does anyone know if one tested clean for toxoplasmosis in a prior pregnancy, should one be tested again? I mean, if the cats didn't have it before, can they have it now? Hmmmm...
Well, the kids are napping, and there are a ton of boxes in the basement to be sorted through for a garage sale that is to be held in 3 short weeks! YIKES!!!!!!
On my list of "Things to Do Before Baby #3 Arrives":
- clean carpets in all 4 bedrooms (to be done in varying stages, with my steamer, no chemicals involved)
- paint Tiny Princess' new room and move her belongings in
- touch up paint in nursery (really just putting on the 2nd coat that didn't get put on)
- patch and pain all spots in rest of house that are cracked or from pictures
- make/buy curtains for dining room and hang
- find/make curtains for master bedroom
- frame and sheetrock my office in basement
- paint bookcases and make/buy shelves for said bookcases
- clean, sort, organize and label pantries and freezer
- put up all garden produce harvested and put beds to "winter"
- wash all infant clothing and place in nursery
- order infant-size cloth diapers and covers
- make and freeze meals and bread to get us through the recovery period and beyond
This, of course, does not include the normal things like laundry, cleaning, and Christmas shopping...and is not intended to make anyone think I'm nuts or a saint...I'm neither...just determined that I will not turn into someone who is disorganized, and out of control. I know there are things I cannot control, which makes me that much more determined to provide as much semblance of order as I can...ok...maybe I am nuts!
But really...I find that if I have a routine, things go much more smoothly in our household. The kids know that on Monday we do our Monday things...and so on and so forth. They know where we are, what they can expect, and they also know how things are done.
Tiny Princess already helps to empty the dishwasher, handing each item to me as she removes it, and Captain Chaos helps me sweep the floors. They pick up their toys, put their dirty clothes in the hamper, Captain Chaos carries his dirty dishes to the sink, and pushes in his chair. He brushes his teeth (sort of) and washes his hands...They put away their books, they help stir things in the kitchen (not on the stove, just on the counter), they put their napkins and silverware on the table, they help put the food for the animals in the dishes. Overall, it is not as though I have to do all the things alone...I have an army of helpers...I just have a list a mile long, and so does BB...
Wish us luck, especially as I go between being all fired up and totally exhausted!
