Life in the Mommy Lane

Yesterday was by far the largest reminder of just how much Mothers in general are underrated!

After waking up at 5am, wide awake, heart pounding from some thought or dream, or imagined something or other...I decided to just get up. I spent my usual time doing my devotion and quiet time, I put away 2 loads of laundry, sorted another 2, showered, dressed, and went downstairs, where I emptied the dishwasher and all the garbage, swept and mopped my hardwood floors, cleaned my kitchen, and then had breakfast with my husband.

After getting Captain Chaos up, bathed, dressed, and fed, we spent the morning playing with trucks, and then met BB at a local pumpkin patch for the fun of watching the Captain pick out his first pumpkin. As he dashed around the dirt area, and tried to pick up only the biggest pumpkins, I thought to myself, "this is what it's all about!"

Later that afternoon, the Captain decided that his lunch hadn't agreed with him, and proceeded to throw up...his entire lunch...all over my mother's couch...and his clothes...and me...twice. We cleaned up the furniture and the boy as much as we possibly could, and I brought him home, where I bathed him, dressed him in clean clothes, and, as he was acting normally, I gave him his afternoon pre-nap milk, and then put him to bed. He slept for an hour, and woke up screaming, having thrown up again...all over the crib, and the carpet. We cleaned up again, sponged off, put on clean clothes, and let him play for a little while. We tried eating some applesauce. It stayed down...for an hour...

After 6 hours, and 3 more clean ups...he finally drank some Gatorade diluted with water, and fell asleep around 11pm...and blessedly slept through the night without getting sick, or waking! He slept until 8 this morning.

I, unfortunately, woke up at 5 am again...with baby#2 kick-boxing and tap-dancing away...this morning, I was able to fall back to sleep, and gloried in another 2 hours of sleep, warm and snuggled up next to BB.

Somehow, when I went into Captain Chaos' room, and saw his smiling face, and heard his little voice chattering away at his Tigger, all the mess, and smell, and the 4 loads of laundry from yesterday seemed nothing...and even less than that when he threw his arms around me and hugged me and gave me an open mouth, slobbery "kiss" on my cheek.
