Day 2

Phew...this morning went totally opposite of how I had hoped...

We were supposed to have Princess's physical, and then come back home and spend a quiet morning with the girls hanging out and reading/playing together, while I took care of getting things cleaned on the first floor...then we'd go get Captain from school, have a nice lunch at home, spend some "fun time" together and then I'd catch up on some reading while the kids napped...

Instead, late yesterday afternoon, Littlest One awoke screaming during her nap, and after she calmed down, was able to tell me that her ears hurt (it was evident as she was pulling and tugging on both ears). I called our pediatrician, and was told they were done for the day...and our chiropractor was out of the office yesterday and his office partner was gone for an emergency.

We muddled through after giving her a dose of Advil, and praying that she'd sleep through the night...

This morning, we awoke to a couple inches of fresh snow, and very icy streets due to yesterday's sun melting drifts and banks of snow and leaving lots and lots of puddles that had nowhere to go, as all the storm drains are covered by said drifts and banks...yeah, don't go there...

SO...we headed off to the doctor's this morning, after a battle of wills over eating breakfast and getting dressed...where we waited for 30 minutes (we were the only appointment today as the doctor had an offsite meeting this morning) before being seen.

Thankfully, he's a cool guy, and gave us his full attention, and did a great job checking out both girls, and we even chatted about his own family for awhile. It's nice when your doctor compliments you on your parenting after you explain to your 4 year old that the light he's shining into her eyes is to make sure that her pupils are dilating/contracting properly (not in those words mind you...but I told her he was making sure the muscles in her eyes were working to control how much light gets into her eyes).

We had to do our first lab with Princess since she was like 9 months old...nothing like having your 4 year old daughter get her thumb pricked and squeezed like an orange for a 1 inch long, mm thick tube of blood, and then have to go and pee in a cup on command...That didn't go so well, and the lab tech at the desk was flat-out rude about our needing to take the specimen cup with us and return it full before the end of the day...

We then had to go across town to pick up Littlest One's prescription, at the pharmacy where they said they hadn't received the electronic request from the doctor, and by the time they "tracked it down", it was time to go get Captain from school, and then we came back to the house so the kids could take potty breaks, then we trekked back to the doctor's office to drop off Princess' specimen, then back across town to get the prescription (which we had to wait another 15 minutes for because they can't mix it up ahead of time, now that they only have certain things refrigerated anymore), got some fast food crap for lunch, came home, ate, cleaned up the blast radius from lunch, then threw the kids into bed for naps, and I'm now sitting here, wasting time until it is time to take Princess to dance class, and Captain to AWANA, and then home again for dinner...

And while things may have gone far, far off track today with what I had planned, I kind of decided that sometimes, things just go off our schedule, that sometimes, you have to put aside your agenda and put out the fires, and get back to your schedule as soon as possible.

Besides, it allows me to quote my favorite literary character ever (who may not be of good character, but you have to love her on lots of levels!), Scarlett O'Hara and say...

"After all, tomorrow is another day..."

I.....am exhausted just listening to your day. Seriously, I'm always awed by mothers and how much they're able to accomplish in a day. What you see as wasting time on the computer, doing what you want, I see as a hardworking, harried mother taking a much needed break for some her time. And I see nothing wrong with that!
