The Aftermath

Yesterday we had a raging storm...we're talking gale-force winds that first whipped from the West, then the South, then the East, then the West again...and that was the first 90 seconds...we had hail, we had lightning and thunder, we had sheets and sheets of rain...for like 20 minutes...

In the aftermath, my first thought was "what did the hail do to my plants in my yard and garden?"

It wasn't until this morning, when BB called me from the office to ask me cryptically, "Did you see our new problem?" My heart sank, and I asked to what he was referring...then I noticed the chunks of plaster on the floor of our garage.

You see, the family that had this house built 12 years ago, finished the garage with insulation, dry-wall, paint, and lots of lights and electrical outlets. They had lots of hobbies that required tools and the like...when he had the inspection done before buying, our inspector told us it appeared that there was a minor roof leak, we should ask for the seller to have it repaired. They balked and gave us some baloney about "washing out the garage, and the hose went crazy"...we forgot about it for the last 7 years, because really, we've not had much in the way of intense bouts of moisture like we've had this summer...especially last night...

NOW...it appears that we have a bit more than a minor issue...but we're not sure where. We're also not sure when we'll be able to check it out ourselves for "real", as things are still wet from yesterday's storm, and there promises to be more today...however, we can't leave it as it is, because if there is something seriously damaged, it is the roof of our house! It is not as though it is the roof of our shed, which would totally stink, but we could deal with...this is the roof that meets what is the floor of our guest room, which is right next to the room in which Captain Chaos sleeps...

Please be praying that there is a minor fix required, with little damage done to our home...our insurance will most likely cover it, but still...the deductible, the headache of filing a claim, having to use an "approved" contractor to fix it...I know BB can do most of the work himself...so pray that all we need is something simple like new flashing and a big fan...
