Hump Day

Well, here we are, on Wednesday again...and I've really got to start finding better things in my life toshare with you all...

Right now, we're watching Curious George on PBS. Captain Chaos is running in and out of the door of the cardboard playhouse in the corner of the family room, randomly yelling something about dinosaurs. Tiny Princess is climbing onto the hearth of the fireplace (a 3-inch step up to an 8-inch deep ledge that runs for about 8 feet), and walking side-to-side with her newly discovered ability to side-step, and then attempting to step down, hands-free, which turns into a slow-motion somersault onto the carpet...this is then followed by her coming over to me, sitting on my feet and saying "din din din!" and laughing wildly...asking for a ride in her limited but happy way.

In about 15 minutes, I'll begin changing diapers on the girl, making a potty trip that will end with simply a clean pair of training pants for the boy, put on shoes, pack up the diaper bag with goodies and beverages for a trip to a local park, where I'm meeting a friend and her little girl.

I like to call this friend "Spoiled Rotten"...she is the 3rd of 4 kids, all of which are tall, blond, blue-eyed, with that perfect golden skin...blessed to be a member of a family that was not troubled with financial woes, relational issues...they are the family that comes with your picture frame...you know...they look like Barbie come to life? Yeah...those...she's married to a guy that has had more careers than the 7 members of my birth family combined...she has to work full-time so that she can have "money to buy the things he won't"...things like clothes from Gap, Buckle, and the like...things like a trip to salon for a $200 appointment, from which she emerges looking much the same as when she went in...things like Star.bucks every morning...

The interesting thing? She doesn't enjoy working...hates going to work and leaving their almost-4-year-old daughter at Day Care...hates that she can't afford to send her to a private pre-school...

The other interesting thing? Her husband was let go from the family business when her dad passed the reins onto a son-in-law...yup...her brother-in-law fired her husband...and during the 3 months in which he was looking for a job, rather than cutting back on "things" for a short-time, they instead, spent all their savings, and racked up enough credit card debt that he took a 2nd job bar tending to help "make ends meet".

It breaks my heart that they place such importance on stuff and their lifestyle that they are killing themselves and their marriage slowly...he wants more kids, and she won't until he can show her that he can take care of them in the manner to which she's accustomed...

I feel badly, because they are both great people...they just aren't lined up in their priorities...

Eh...not that my marriage is without flaw...so I shouldn't throw stones...but what can you do????
