Prayer Request - Updated

Somehow, I feel like this is getting to be a habit with me...but it's one that I know is alright...

Today, my mom called me around 10am. Yesterday, my Daddy was not feeling well. He was having a "billious" day, if you will, but they thought nothing of it, attributing it to the rich Corned Beef he'd had the night before...however!!! He told Mom this morning, as she was preparing to have some blood work done that he was feeling worse, the pain was really bad, and he'd called the doctor, and couldn't get an appointment til 1 this afternoon. When Mom returned from the lab, she took one look at him, ate her breakfast, finished up with a serviceperson who had called this morning, and promptly loaded Daddy up in the car, and took him to the ER.

They took blood, did X-rays, used contrast dye and the appropriate tests to run them...the pain was on the opposite side from his appedix, and so they ruled out gall-stones, appendicitis, and several other issues. After several hours, Mom called me back to tell me that Daddy has a rather large kidney stone. His pain, while related to the stone, was mostly due to the fact that the presence of the stone had actually caused his entire digestive system to shut down..without going into too many gory details...he is currently checked into the hospital, resting comfortably under the influence of pain relieving medication, waiting for the stone to pass...he will remain under observation until it passes and things are back to normal. Please pray that it will break down before he passes it, and that the pain relieving drugs will help with the discomfort. Pray also that everything will be back to normal with no further issues caused by the shut down of his body!

Secondly - please pray for BB and I...I took Tiny Princess in for her check-up today (15 months!!). She is doing great, no developmental or health issues (which they are greatly concerned with thanks to the Swine Flu). Captain Chaos, however, is not doing so well...awhile back, FarmWife wrote about taking their B.B. in for speech screening, to insure that things were normal with his speech...well...now it's our turn...The Dr. listened to Captain Chaos, talked with him for several minutes, and then asked me if this was normal speech for him or if he was simply being silly and playing with his words...I said it was normal (it was), and the next thing I know, Tiny Princess was getting all shot up with her immunizations, and the nurse was handing me a business card for the Audiologist in the Clinic we go to, as well as a prescription to go see a Therapist for a screening. I am more than a bit concerned about this, but thankful that the Dr. saw something that he paid attention to. Please pray that the doctors we'll be seeing will find something that can be corrected easily and speedily and without pain or invasion into Captain Chaos. After his bout with Kawasaki's, I don't know that I could handle more needles and sedation for any tubes or the like! Pray for BB and I, that we'll be able to turn this over to God, and be at peace with His will. Pray that we'll be able to work with Captain Chaos on any exercises and activities that they'll give us to assist with his speech.

I'd ask you to pray that they find nothing truly wrong with him, and tell us that we should just hang out and wait, see what a year of pre-school will do for him...but I'm afraid that would just delay the correction process, and make it harder to undo any issues that are there...

Basically...just pray that we'll find the answers fast and that the solutions will be easy to handle, and covered by our insurance...that about takes care of it.

And just in case you were wondering...I'm more than a bit concerned...I'm trying really freaking hard not to totally lose it...I obviously was not cut out to be a mother to a Special Needs child...if I can't handle hearing/speech issues that are minor...OY!

*********************************************************************************

First of all - thank you so very much for letting me spill my fears and concerns here, to you all...and for taking them seriously. It means so much to know that I've got folks that are listening to me sincerely, and praying for me...especially knowing that we're not sure if we'll ever get to meet in person, and are connected by such interesting ways. I love that about technology!

Second - thank for you for praying for my Daddy! He passed the stone last night, and didn't even know he had until the nurse came in to take care of emptying things!!!! He was still very uncomfortable, but was allowed to have solid food for supper last night. He said he was in a bit of pain through the night last night, but they let him have 'real' food for breakfast this morning, and he's since had things start up, and is feeling a bit better pain wise. The urologist wants to see him to discuss options for the other stones that are present, and to help keep more from forming in the future. He should be home later today, after the doctors give him the all clear.

Third - BB is having a tough time with the idea that something might be wrong with Capt...in BB's mind, if it's not something physical, like his ears, or just needing more time to get his tongue in tune with his brain, then it must be something developmental, and to BB, that means the worst case...please continue praying for BB, that he'll have the time to utilize the resources that are available in our area, both for our education, as well as any assistance we might need for Captain Chaos...

This is pretty scary for us...BB's mind works in ways that are so different from mine, and he really has trouble being able to trust that God's got it all under control...in BB's mind, God in control should mean that we get what we want...I know that simply seeing the doctors for hearing screening, and the like doesn't mean that we'll be into that worst case scenario (which, to me, would be Capt being hearing impaired on some level)...in all likelihood, it is going to be a simple matter of observing and working with him under certain programs, playing games, reading books and the like.

A good friend had her little guy go through this here last year, and he's doing great, no tubes, no "therapy" per se, just lots of word games and reading at home...singing songs, reciting nursery rhymes with nonsense words, listening to stories, hands-on with letters made of paper covered in felt, cotton balls, seeds and the like to get that tactile sensation of letter sounds associated with feelings...that would be a lot more fun to do...letters out of sand paper, or covered with feathers...I could totally dig a "project" like that...

He's currently sitting and watching a Leap Frog video about talking letters and words...we'll see if things like that will help him out a little between now and seeing the therapist...

I'm praying for both your daddy & the little man. Funny, your dad, my husband, same issues, same day. Now I'm glad we took Husband to the ER. I didn't know a kidney stone could do that!!

As for Cap. In our area, the birth to three program can come to your house & do speech therapy if the child is under three. Over three, they have to go into the school for it. Either way, it's free. I'm pretty sure it's a federal program, so look into (call the elementary school near you)if he ends up needing thearapy.

It's horrible to think anything is wrong with your child (you & I both know that tale well), but in the grand scheme of things, speech is not a huge deal. You can do this!! I cried like a baby when they told me BabyGirl needed tubes in her ears. Now I wish we'd have done it a full year sooner!!
