I just finished reading FarmWife's post from yesterday, and was moved by it. I'll post about my own Sliding Doors sometime down the road...just not today.
Today, I'm sitting here, in a dimly lit hotel room, with the curtains drawn, and the blinds closed...the children are just starting to stir in their room...BB has been at work for a little while now, we had breakfast together...I have laundry to do, and packing and sorting to see to, but for now, I'm enjoying a cup of coffee with French Vanilla creamer added to it...my tummy is happy and full...I'm warm...
I've recently joined one of those clubs that you get a solicitation for in the mail...you know the one "Join now and receive FREE Gifts!!!" well...I bit at this one, because they actually sent me a teaser...they sent me a book. For those of you out there who aren't readers...let me explain...this would be like the Gevalia coffee people sending you FREE coffee...enough for a whole pot. But that's it. OR, like Godiva chocolates sending you a sampler of their yummy filled squares...some of the mint, some of the caramel...you know...just one of each...enough to tempt you, but not enough to get your fill.
Well, I read all the fine print, all the large print, all the print included in the package, and thought, "what a fantastic thing! Here are these Christian authors writing stories, LOVE stories...ROMANCE novels, without all the heaving bosoms and, let's face it, pornographic scenes! Here are stories of LOVE, not passion, COMMITTMENT, not convenience..." And I was hooked!
SO, I signed up, I'm paying my paltry $14 a month a receiving 4 books, including shipping and handling...I LOVE them...
Some of them are series, so the characters from last month's book are in this month's book, in the next stage of their journey...some are YEARS into the families' stories, and I'm just now invited in...but I love them...I love that there are stories of the struggles of the heart, struggles of real life, money, jobs, death, betrayal of trust, hurt, anger, friendship...and underlying it all are the promises of God...His faithfulness, His grace, His love - and how that must be the cornerstone of life.
I know that not everyone who pops over to read my shares these beliefs, and that is ok...
These books may not be deeply intricate, like "A Tale of Two Cities", or "The Three Musketeers" with intrigue and history, and espionage, and the like...but when you're a mom, with all the responsibilities, and duties, and obligations that go along with it...it's nice to pick up a light read that is wholesome, and uplifting, and still fun to read!
I think I'm going to start sharing these with my local girls, because, after all, part of the reason I've picked them is because when I do chance to get to the library, I never make it out of the picture book section of the children's library collection...and while I heart Dr Seuess, and "Cloudy, With a Chance of Meatballs"...I long to open the pages of a book that smells like book, like library, and meet some new people...and be transported to a world I've never visited before...all at the same time that I'm introducing Captain Chaos & Tiny Princess to my beloved friends in the books I read growing up (and still read from time to time!)

have you ever read Karen Kingsbury? I loved her books on the Baxter family. Of course since I live in Indianapolis and the story line was in Bloomington Indiana, that was cool too. but she has a real gift for telling stories about real people who struggle with everyday things but always put God first in their lifes. it starts with the Firstborn series, there are 5 books and then the Sunrise series and I think there are 3 of those. I could not put them down. hope you enjoy your books.
