On a Happier Note...

My little garden is producing quite nicely...I am only afraid that the first harvest will need to happen while we are out of town next week!

We have about 2 dozen tomatoes that are growing nicely, still green, so I am not worried about those. My fear is that the 6 different zucchini/squash that are growing will not be big enough to pick before we leave, and that my neighbors will get to enjoy the first fruits of my garden! YIKES!

We have about 3 crookneck squash, 3 zucchini, and perhaps some of the other squash flowers will fruit soon...but they are each only about 3 inches long right now. Of course, it is supposed to be close to 100 degrees outside today, so perhaps they will grow in proportion to the temperature...I will check them tomorrow morning, and hopefully they will be the correct size to pick and enjoy before we leave.

My lettuce is growing nicely, shaded by our shed, and a makeshift canopy BB created. Thankfully, it is holding, and provides shade during the hottest part of the day, keeping my little lettuce plants from bolting and going to seed. My radishes are growing, as are the carrots, but I have little hope for my green onions, as they seem to be not growing at all. I also hope that the bugs that are enjoying the leaves on my radishes will NOT be burrowing into the ground to eat the actual radishes...which I will be able to begin picking when we return.

Next year, we are doing a box-wave-planting. I will plant a box with things that mature quickly and can be planted several times during the season, wait 2 weeks, plant another box, and so on and so forth. That way, I can have fruit and veggies all summer long, rather than having to wait until late in the season for them.

And now, I must go and clean my sinks and toilets, because my cleaning lady did not make it yesterday. After that, I will fold more laundry, and then vacuum my carpets.
