I am stealing these questions from FarmWife's mother today. FarmWife does an "Ask FarmWife" once a week, and the Queen Mother always poses good ones...I want to answer them myself, so here I go...
#1 - Is it really a 5 o'clock world and during a 24 hour time period is it 5pm somewere once for each hour of that 24 hour period?
Assuming that QM is referring to the song "5 O'Clock World" by Time Machine, I would say "Yes" it is. Based on my knowledge of how the world and time zones work, yes, it is 5pm somewhere in the world for each hour of a 24-hour period.
#2 - Why did the 10 o'clock scholar wait until noon?
I think he waited until noon because he was turning into a teenager and wanted to sleep later in the morning. Or else, he had a part-time job. Honestly, I can find no history or secret meanings in my searches...What I really want to know is why the cow jumped over the moon?
#3 - What are blue laws and were do they come from?
According to Wikipedia, "A blue law is a type of law in the United States and Canada designed to enforce moral standards, particularly the observance of Sunday as a day of worship or rest. Most have been repealed, declared unconstitutional or are simply unenforced, although prohibitions on the sale of alcoholic beverages, and occasionally almost all commerce, on Sundays are still enforced in many areas. Blue laws often prohibit an activity only during certain hours and there are usually exceptions to the prohibition of commerce, like grocery and drug stores. In some places blue laws may be enforced due to religious principles, but others are retained as a matter of tradition or out of convenience." Colorado recently had a hoopla about repealing the blue laws that prohibit liquor stores and car dealerships from being open on Sunday, and I believe, the liquor sales law will be changed as a result. In my personal opinion, I think the blue laws are great! No religious preference is behind this, I just think that everyone should be able to have a day where they only have the option of spending time with their family and friends that does not revolve around commerce. Go on a picnic, play football, read a book...sleep...heck, invent something if you like, but seriously y'all, when did we decide that we had to have what we wanted right away, regardless of whether it was 2am, or Sunday? Oy!
#4 - If you had to plan a party for the Queen of England were would you have it and who would you invite?
That depends. What kind of party? A tea party? A birthday party? A dinner party? Or a Bunko party? I think I would throw her a tea party. I have always wanted to do that...and it would be a formal, traditional English tea, at the Glen Eyrie Castle in Colorado Springs. It is beautiful. I would invite my mother, all of my friends, but no other heads of state or celebrities. I imagine that Queen Elizabeth must get awfully tired of having to be a head of state at events like that. I would offer her the refreshing chance to just be herself, and enjoy time with normal, everyday people that didn't want anything from her other than to say they had Tea with The Queen.
And that is all I have to say about that today.
