When it Rains...

While it isn't literally raining in Colorado right now...in fact, it is supposed to be 60 degrees today, and I have my house thrown wide open, doors, windows...the sun is shining in, the air is fresh and crisp, almost like a fall day...it is a little disconcerting actually, especially when the weather on the other half of the state is in the below zero range in places...

Anyway...a couple weeks ago, my clothes dryer started making this ugly, hideous screeching squeal...I have suffered through it, thinking it was just something weird going on due to the insanely cold weather that we had at the time (silly me, what was I thinking, that a dryer might be affected by the arctic air blowing into the exhaust vent?)...so we spent the better part of the last 2 weeks doing laundry when there was nothing we needed to be listening to...needless to say, I am tired of doing laundry around our schedules of watching tv or naptimes...OY!

We made it through Christmas, and now that I'm all caught up on laundry and most of my housework, due to BB being out of the house with the truck today, leaving me stranded (in the best sense)...I've now done 4 loads of laundry, swept all my floors, vacuumed, dusted, and am ready to mop my floors and iron BB's work shirts...I might even be tempted to bake some cookies. But I digress...

We spent the better part of yesterday traipsing all across town to find a new washer and dryer, because BB is convinced that you can't possibly by a new dryer and not a new washer...and we couldn't possibly have come home, and looked online, or made phone calls to find out prices and availability...no, instead we had to go to every store in town that sells appliances and spend at least 30 minutes asking questions on things...and I'm not quite sure what part of "Universal Manufacturer's Retail Price" BB didn't understand...it is not as though Best Buy would have it cheaper than Sears...the manufacturer doesn't let that happen...so every place we went had them for exactly the same price! The only difference if who has the best financing deal, and who can get it to us the earliest.

That being discovered, we cam home, put the kids down for naps, and spent the next 3 hours looking online for places and calling around to find out when things could be delivered.

However, after spending lots of time fruitlessly searching for reviews on said brand, I told BB flat out that I didn't want to just go buy one...I want to actually find out if we can have it fixed for less than 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of the new one...because then we wouldn't spend money we didn't need to.

I tried to run my vacuum and for some reason it is clogged...it is not sucking well, I've emptied it, I've brushed out the hoses, cleaned the brush all the pieces and parts that I can get to...I think that maybe there is some string wrapped around a clump of pet hair that I just can't reach...so I'm going to put it in my laundry room, and stretch out the hose and get in there with BB's fish tape to loosen up whatever it is...and then I'll vacuum the floors again...

Next, BB couldn't find a specific toolbox that he needed today, and left cranky, tired, and irritated.

Captain Chaos has had nothing but meltdowns all morning long, Tiny Princess has had about 4 blowouts...and I'm tired, and didn't sleep well due to an insane windstorm last night.

So, the children are taking a long morning nap (abnormal for Capt Chaos) and I'm watching some TiVo'd episodes of Days of Our Lives and thinking I should really be doing something productive...

Have you changed your cleaner's belts lately? My old one wouldn't suck anything up & it turned out to be bad belts...go figure.

And I hate shopping for appliances too. I know we can't afford what I really want & I hate calling around to ask about prices, warranties, delivery, and haul-off. It makes me crazy!
