OK...the title doesn't really have anything to do with what I'm posting on today...it was just the song stuck in my head this morning in the shower...
I realized that I was feeling very sorry for myself on Friday and that I did nothing to stop my self-pity...for that I apologize. BB is a very good husband and is very considerate...he really doesn't just go off and do things that are selfish, or inconsiderate or mean. He is, the majority of the time, always thinking of me and the children and what he can do to help us and make things easier for us...besides, he works his tail off so I can stay home and raise our children, and not have them in daycare while I work to make ends meet...
That being said, we ended up having a good time Friday night at our BBQ, and had some fun fireworks that the neighbors had all purchased. We had lots of good food, good fellowship, and good fun watching the kids play with sparklers and run around yelling and squirting each other with water guns. I had that sort of thing growing up because I come from a large family. It was made better by the fact that our closest friends growing up were geographically close as well...so we did have those "block parties" growing up...and that was what I was craving. I was used to the crowd all day because my family WAS the crowd!
Saturday we spent doing a whole lot of nothing...it was hot, we were tired, the kids were worn out...so we spent some time at a neighborhood greenhouse, where I picked up a Lemon Basil and Cinnamon Basil plant for my herb collection...talk about yummy and a wonderful addition to salads and grilling! MMMMM...makes my mouth water just thinking about it! Saturday night, we stayed up late and watched NASCAR. Sunday, we got up, BB mowed the grass, and spent 3 hours outside with our plants and gardens...no fruit to harvest quite yet, but we've got about 2 dozen green tomatoes, 4 or 5 dozen squash and zucchini flowers, lettuce out our ears, the herbs are taking off, and we've now got strawberry pots WITH plants that are flourishing...my peach tree has about 3 dozen little fuzzy green rocks that will soon be the size of a baseball, juicy, delicious peaches, and we actually have almost 4 dozen apples on our little tree! HOORAY!
We trimmed our roses (we have a total of 39 rose bushes in our yard...14 of which are floribunda and need lots of TLC, the other 25 are mini's with white blooms that just sort of take off if they are ignored), cleaned up our stupid Lamb's Ears plants that are overtaking the area in our yard that was meant to be a waterfall and pond...BB trimmed the branches from the neighbors' trees that were growing over our fence and stealing our sunlight and water...we actually had their rose tree send a shoot over the fence that we didn't catch, and it has actually rooted in my yard...if it was healthy, I'd keep it, but we dug it up and told them they have blackspot mold on their plant and need to treat it...ick... I sprayed home-made anti-aphid spray on my roses and plants...nothing like peppermint oil, dish soap and water in a spray bottle to make you feel better about taking out the bugs! Woo Hoo! I was an aphid-spraying machine this weekend!
The folks came over with my brother and a long-time family friend. We went to lunch at one of Mom's favorite Mexican restaurants, and then came back to the house, had dessert, and put the kiddos down for a nap. It was a short visit as my brother was installing a window a/c unit (due to the cost of replacing the furnace and installing a/c being out of his budget this year) and a platform to hold it up safely) and he needed to get home and get it all done so he could actually have a comfortable air temperature inside his house.
We spent the rest of the afternoon with each other, chatting, reading the newspaper, watching "Resident Evil:The Apocalypse" and the end of "Old School", eating dinner, and finally going to bed. It rained a little yesterday afternoon, Captain Chaos played in his pool and sandbox, while Tiny Princess napped.
I awoke this morning to a cloudy sky, muggy air, and felt like a million bucks! I literally bounded out of bed, sang in the shower (reference the title for my choice), got dressed and started the day off with laundry. My kitchen is mostly clean (need to wash the floor), the toilets are scrubbed, the showers are sparkling, I baked 2 loaves of sourdough bread and a batch of cookies (I love cool summer days), watered all the plants, started a packing list and as soon as the kids go down for their afternoon nap will be working to get all things garage sale into the garage, sorted, and priced! I cannot believe that the kids start school in our district in 6 weeks! We have our garage sale this weekend, are housesitting/dogsitting for our neighbors next week, they come home, we exchange keys, and we leave on the 24th for Oregon!
We will be gone for 10 days, and get to spend at least one full day with our friends in the southern part of the state. The rest of the time will be spent between the in-laws and BB's cousin's wedding...
I'm still dreading the conversation about Christmas and would appreciate your prayers for courage and the right words to say, without causing hurt to my in-laws...
I would also appreciate your prayers for good health between now and when we are back home, as well as for safe travels, and a good visit...
