We have a first in our house as of this morning...Captain Chaos actually watched Sesame Street this morning. Now, I understand that in some houses this would be a "So what?" moment but to date he has actually cried and screamed in fear at Sesame Street. I am not sure how excited I am, especially as it means there is one more show that he will be asking for in a few days. Seriously y'all, the boy has a serious addiction to television.
Along those lines, I have already started employing the timer...when the timer goes off, we turn off the TV regardless of where in the show we might be...and then, if, and only if he can behave and obey do we employ the "When the timer goes off, we will put in Veggie Tales" rule. I do not like the idea of my 23 month old son already being addicted to television, and have made a resolution that it does not get turned on when he is awake. Period. Today was the exception because last night at the dinner table he looked at me, looked at BB, said "Ow", and promptly threw up the entire contents of his stomach...which was not pretty. At all. After we cleaned him up, along with the table, the chair, the floor, the window sill, the blind, and the dog (teach Rocco to hang out under the table while we eat), he finished his bread, and some cheese. I did not realize that while I was cleaning up the rags and towels used to clean up the boy et al, his father decided to feed him tomatoes, black olives, and dill pickles...HELLO! He had just thrown up, and you decide to feed him vegetables?!?!?!?!? The majority of which had been preserved using vinegar and salt?!?!?!?! I heaved a huge sigh, and prayed fervently that it was a one-time event.
After dinner, I settled the kids, and came downstairs to find BB sound asleep in his chair, watching some show on the Adirondacks on one of the many Discovery Channel affiliates. I woke him, sent him to bed, took care of the cats and dog, closed up the house, went upstairs, brushed my teeth and washed my face, put on my jammies and got into bed. Only to be woken up by Tiny Princess 2 minutes later, who was looking for more bedtime snack. After she was settled and asleep again (which was only at 9:30) I tried to go to bed again...and was roused a short 8 minutes after that by Captain Chaos crying. I settled him back down (but should have realized why he had awakened in the first place) and was woken up yet again around 10:45 by Captain Chaos crying. I went down the hall, opened the door, and was greeted by the unmistakable sound of him throwing up. All over the bed (thankfully it was contained to the crib, because it was mostly caught by his blanket, sheet, and hair) and himself. I grabbed a bath towel, wrapped him up, took him into his bathroom, and held him over the toilet to catch the rest, cleaned him up, changed his bed, rinsed out his blanket and sheet in the bathroom, washed his mattress with Clorox wipes, put on a fresh sheet, got another quilt out for him, put him in fresh jammies after giving him a baby wipe bath, and rinsing his hair out. I got him a cup of juice (diluted more than normal), and some cracker, calmed him down and put him back to bed. He obviously felt better because he was running up and down the hallway with only his diaper on shouting "oh no!" while I was cleaning up his room...the best part is that it was blowing viciously, cold as all get-out, and pelting rain, so I could only open his window about an inch...which meant that his window sill was wet, along with the carpet where the wind had blown the rain in, but there was NO WAY I was leaving his room to smell like sick boy and Clorox wipes all night long. Thankfully the wind actually helped air it out much more quickly than it otherwise might have, so by the time all was cleaned up, it was nice and fresh-smelling in there. And he then slept the rest of the night until 8 this morning. He woke up happy, had a great bath (no splashing on the floor, only in the tub, no screaming when it came time to get out), and has had a single scrambled egg and half a glass of diluted apple juice.
Tiny Princess is now snoozing in her swing, Captain Chaos is watching Barney, about which I am not happy, but I am too lazy to get the remote control and change the channel. Besides that, he's dancing while they sing about borrowing books from the library and it is too cute.
I have a load of their laundry in the wash, with vinegar to deodorize, and 2 more lined up because BB has come home and changed every night this week...and then puts his "play clothes" in the wash, even though he only wears them for 3 hours, and does nothing that gets him or them dirty...grrrrrrr
We were supposed to go out today, to run some errands, and buy some groceries, but we are staying at home in case Captain Chaos gets sick again...
Nothing like having to sit around the house and change your plans. I can't do the ironing because the shirts that need ironed are waiting to be washed, and I can't wash the floors because the boy is still awake, and I refuse to wash them and spend the next 20 minutes saying "stay in here, the floor is slippery" and then having to comfort him when he slips and falls because he chooses to disobey and disregard and tries to run through the kitchen...SIGH
